Acme Graphics Considers New Building in Cedar Rapids
Posted 8/4/2011
Printing company Acme Graphics has applied for funds to assist with the proposed construction of a new 22,000 square foot facility at 320 49th Ave. Dr. SW in Cedar Rapids.
The new building would replace their existing facility at 201 Third Ave. SW, which was badly damaged by the flood of 2008. The facility sits in the proposed flood protection area, and is in the process of being purchased by the city of Cedar Rapids as part of the flood mitigation plan.
"Shortly after moving into our new location during the summer of 2012, we will have the opportunity to celebrate our 100th year of conducting business in the city of Cedar Rapids” said Jeff Scherrman, president of Acme Graphics. “We appreciate the efforts of both Priority One and the city in helping us find a location that meets the needs of our company.”
The project will keep Acme’s 20 current employees in Cedar Rapids as well.
“It is very important to the Cedar Rapids City Council to keep Acme Graphics and their employees in Cedar Rapids,” said Mayor Ron Corbett. “Job retention doesn’t always get as much attention as job creation, but it is essential to the economic vitality of our community.”
Acme Graphics has applied for tax incremental financing through the city of Cedar Rapids to assist for the proposed construction. Priority One is assisting Acme Graphics with the application process.
