Raining Rose Inc. has applied for state and local funds to assist with the proposed construction of a two-story, 122,000 square-foot manufacturing facility at 3015 First Ave. SE in Cedar Rapids. The new building would replace their existing facility at 407 Ninth Ave. SE, as well as leased space at other buildings.
“With our rapid business growth, we need to ensure that we continue to provide quality products to our customers in an efficient and cost-effective manner,” said Chuck Hammond, president and CEO of Raining Rose. “We’re currently spread out over three separate locations. Being under one roof will allow for even greater productivity and improved customer service.”
Raining Rose’s current location was hit hard by the flood of 2008; the plant took on more than eight feet of water. The company is committed to staying in Cedar Rapids though, and has selected the Allis Chalmers site as the proposed location for their new facility. Raining Rose would demolish the dilapidated manufacturing building that currently sits on the site before beginning construction.
“We are extremely pleased that Raining Rose has chosen to stay in Cedar Rapids,” said Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett. “They are an award-winning company, and truly an asset to our community.”
In May, Raining Rose was awarded a Blue Ribbon Small Business award from the United States Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Hammond recently received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 Central Midwest Award in the Manufacturing category.
“Chuck Hammond and the Raining Rose team exemplify innovation and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Dee Baird, president of Priority One. “We will continue to support and celebrate their growth.”
Raining Rose employs 97 people in Cedar Rapids. The expanded plant capacity will result in a significant increase in jobs at the company over the next three years.
The project is contingent upon finalized property acquisition, as well as formal approval of state and local incentives, including tax credits, job training, and indirect financing. Priority One is assisting Raining Rose with the application process.
